How to get:
the most out of Self-Study

One of the hardest parts of studying for the GMAT or GRE is that there is too much information to cover. We designed self-study to avoid the issue of figuring out what to study next. If you follow the steps below, our tools will point you in the right direction where you can get the most points and improve the fastest.

Follow the steps below to get started:

  • Take a diagnostic test. The test will pinpoint your strengths and weaknesses.
  • Based on your diagnostic test, create a list of the areas where you should focus.
  • Go into the database and search for questions in one of those areas. Remember, our database catalogs questions by difficulty and type of problem. You can isolate specific types of problems. You can also retrieve a long list of questions for a specific topic.
  • Retrieve a packet of questions for a specific topic (topic 1) and begin practicing. Depending on your starting point, you may want to start with the least difficult questions.
  • As you go through the questions, read our answers and explanations thoroughly.
  • Keep practicing by going through the packet of questions.
  • Be sure to review our section on formulas and tricks for the topic.
  • Move on to the next focus area (topic 2).
  • The next day or a few days later, return to topic 1, and rerun a new set of questions to practice on. Keep repeating until you are comfortable with the material. Do the same for your other focus topics.
  • Intermittently, practice on our mini quizzes for each topic to assess your mastery of the material.
  • When you have covered many topics, take one of the practice tests to gauge your improvement.
  • Keep practicing on the materials until you get in the score range you want on our practice tests.
